WE'RE ALL ADULTS HERE. Act like an adult. Stay away from OOC drama. However, if you do find that you're having an issue with another player's actions, don't hesitate to contact one or both of the moderators so that the situation can be handled in a mature way.
KNOW YOUR CHARACTER. Players need to be sure they have a firm idea of their character's personality and the game's premise before applying. While characters are expected to grow and change over time, the spirit of your character should remain the same. In simple terms, the character you apply with is the character we expect you to play with. Needless to say, then Mary Sues/Gary Stus are also not allowed.
QUALITY > SPEED/QUANTITY. Both spelling and grammar are important. If you use Firefox, there should be an online spellchecker already installed on your browser. With this, your browser will point out misspelled words as you type à la Microsoft Word. This should successfully prevent a majority of spelling issues, though we do understand that typos happen.
In addition: we understand that some characters may not have the best of spelling. In-Character writing traits are fine! They should be clear in the examples provided with your application though.
HOW MANY CHARACTERS CAN YOU PLAY? Players are currently only allowed four (4) characters. If a player has reached the limit and wishes to take on more characters, we will make a call on a case by case basis. Players must have maintained high activity levels with all four of their previous characters. If a player takes on additional characters and proves to be incapable of handling the character load, they may be asked to release their characters back for application. Players cannot play two characters that would interact regularly (i.e. - the same player cannot play Ron and Harry).
LET'S BE ACTIVE! Players are expected to post at least 1 journal entry (more than a sentence or two would be preferred, but as long as it generates interaction, it will pass) and/or a completed log every two weeks. Players who fail to meet activity requirements regularly will be removed from the game. We're not strict but we do think activity is important to a successful game. We as mods will be doing our best to provide characters with events to be involved in and/or react to, and we encourage that players explore plots on their own (more on this below).
That said, hiatuses are allowed. While we're not going to set a limit, please be reasonable. Communicating your need to be away and for exactly how long is important. Don't abuse this!
VARIETY REALLY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE. We welcome characters of all orientations and colours. If you wish to play a homosexual character, please keep it realistic and respectful. Not every gay male is effeminate, nor is every gay female butch, though they do exist.
PBs should be appropriate for the age of the character and be clear of text. If you need help locating an appropriate PB, feel free to ask for assistance. We are more than willing to offer up suggestions. We both love and encourage diversity in PB choices, so be creative, be different. We aren't banning any PBs, however, we do reserve the right to reject any PB that we feel is inappropriate.
PRIORITISE. Realism should also also be used with your heterosexual ships. Do not make them the entire focus on your character's experience. A war just ended. A world needs to be rebuilt. Family, friends and finding their place now should probably be a higher priority than hitting it off with that fit guy or girl at the memorial. Though, it will be said, that if it completely, totally in character for such actions to come from a character, go with it.
COMMUNICATE. Given the nature of this game, dark plots will happen. We only ask that our members research and put some thought into it when taking part in them, and that you contact us if you are planning character death or medical situations that are not part of game-wide plot.
Still on the nature of this game being as it is, we recognise that some characters who were not specifically mentioned as dead in the book are listed as dead in this game. This is not negotiable. Fifty or so people died on the side of the Order and the DA that day, and it'd be incredibly unrealistic if only the people specifically mentioned (as it only adds up to about 5) were those killed.
Also, in case it needs to be said, please avoid godmodding at all costs. It's not allowed, and occasionally it tends to be offensive. Let the player know, or ask for permission before offering up someone else's character for something they just might not be okay with.
WHAT WE REALLY WON'T TOLERATE. Plagiarism of any variety is not allowed. If we receive a report that you have stolen anything from another writer without credit or permission, and the explanation for it is not satisfactory, you will be removed. There is a zero tolerance policy for this.
FOR IN-GAME KNOWLEDGE. As far as your character knows, journals that allow you to speak to others, with the ability to ward them, have always been in existence. Whether your character has always had one or is just acquiring one is up to you.
Journals wards should be clearly labeled so that people know exactly who can and cannot read them. Strike-outs cannot be read.
Thread headings should be formatted as follows:
Characters: [Who's involved this scene.] Setting: [Where and when (morning, evening, between what events of the day) the scene is occurring.] Ratings: [For simplicity's sake, use the movie rating system. We allow threads of all ratings. Add warnings as necessary.] Summary: [A short summary of the scene. Maybe what it's trying to achieve, what spawned it into being, and etc.]
